Mauritania

The Mauritanian desert has the freshness of the sea when the prevailing wind takes on the colours of a trade wind, swelling the dunes with a new, invigorating energy.

Everything here is feminine — the shapes, the hues, the melhafas, those light veils worn by women in dazzling colours.

In the evening nothing stirs; in a gentle silence the walker's soul finds peace, while your hosts quietly prepare the camp and the evening meal. Mauritania, an authentic land where hearts grow lighter, for as the poet says, "where the land is dry, the soul is purer and less bitter!"

Find your true self again, like the wind, the silence and the laughter…

Join us — and come home lighter!

Mauritania

A land of exchanges

"A kingdom of nomadism, where North African pottery and Sudanese gold passed from hand to hand; a land of exchanges criss-crossed for centuries by the great caravans that came to trade desert salt for savannah millet — Mauritania, open to tourism only since 1997, is a fascinating and still little-known country with countless treasures to discover."

Mauritania is a country twice the size of France with only three million inhabitants — a land of desert. The land of Monod's and Saint-Exupéry's men. The modern world sought to tighten its grip here without ever truly eroding the identity of its people, founded on the nomadic ideal: an eternal wandering across the great spaces of sand and wind. A legendary will to be free forged this people, whom foreign domination never more than brushed.

We invite you to discover this western Sahara, where the landscapes are sumptuous yet the human presence is stronger than in the central Sahara. You must travel this country to understand its people and what it means to hold fast to a land so beautiful and yet so arid. We will do so on 4x4 discovery tours or camel treks that will leave you with memories of nights beneath the stars, of refreshing springs and verdant oases.
